About Naturopathy

WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?

Naturopathic medicine is a complete medical system treating any condition- physical, emotional or spiritual according to the principles of naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic physicians complete postgraduate program of education at an accredited naturopathic medical school. This education includes conventional medical diagnostic training. Naturopathic physicians are further trained as experts in natural medicine and modalities which focus on treating the whole person such as Clinical Nutrition and Nutritional Medicine, Physical Medicine, Homeopathic Medicine, Botanical Medicine and Psychological Medicine. Laboratory testing and physical examinations are often indicated and performed.

Principles of Naturopathy:

The Healing Power of Nature
The body has the inherent ability, not only to restore health, but to also ward off disease.

First do no Harm
Since the body has an inherent ability to heal itself, naturopathic medicine tends to use gentle and noninvasive therapies.

Identify and Treat the Cause
Illness does not occur without cause, and symptoms (rash, nausea, and headache) are not the cause of illness but are signals that the body is out of balance. These symptoms improve as their cause is treated.

Prevention is the Best Cure
Naturopathic physicians try to help patients recognize their lifestyle choices and how these choices affect their health.

Doctor as Teacher
The original meaning of the word doctor was teacher. One of a physicians primary responsibilities is to educate the patient about their health and encourage self-responsibility.
